Bangalow Sweet Pork®

Bangalow Sweet Pork® Newsletter
December 2004

Hello again to all the Bangalow Sweet Pork ® fans and supporters.

Always remember Bangalow Sweet Pork ® is all about the best “Tasting Pork” available in the world today. We aim to keep it that way. More about that in future editions. Watch this space.

The last six months have been good for The Sweet Pork Company. You will continue to hear about us.

It is important that we advise you that we are having a short term supply problem at the moment. This is not only due to the seasonal increase in demand. The main reason is a perennial problem at the production end. It is an industry problem due to a natural occurrence in our industry known as “summer infertility”. With sows mated in the hot months of summer, i.e. December, January, and February, conception rates are often reduced by as much as 60%. The pigs which fail to be conceived at this time are those which are needed at the time of peak consumer demand, i.e. November and December. The summer of 2003/2004 was the worst for this problem in the memories of all our contracted producers.

Please bear with us. I am confident that you will all be able to purchase your festive season requirements of Bangalow Sweet Pork ®. However, I caution you not to delay in contacting your supplier. Remember also that Bangalow Sweet Pork ® can be stored frozen, later it will thaw magnificently. You can hold it frozen for three months and, provided you remove it from the freezer around 24 to 48 hours before it is needed, and thaw it in the lowest part (this is the coldest) of your refrigerator it will lose none of it’s wonderful flavour or moisture. Ask your butcher to cry-o-vac it for you.

So, hop to it now and clean out those fridges in preparation for happy eating experiences over the silly season.

At this point I will wish you all a Happy and a Gourmet Christmas and New Year from all of us at The Sweet Pork Company.

The fifth anniversary of our commencement of trading was on 19th October 2004. It has been a long haul and we could not have done without your tremendous support for our product. From now on the sky is the limit.

Special thanks go to the supportive media. Recently Simon Thomsen penned a magnificent article for us in the “Good Living” section of the Sydney Morning Herald on the 19th October 2004. Thank you Simon. The public response to the article was outstanding. If you missed it you can catch up on our Website www.sweetpork.com.au under the Media link. Many thanks also to all those who have assisted in the past. They are too numerous to mention at this time. In future we intend to acknowledge these media and other contributions of support in our newsletters.

More recently Jeff Janz on his Channel 9 programme “Fresh” had Richard Sampson-Genest, from our Brisbane food service distributor, Black Pearl Epicure, do a segment on Bangalow Sweet Pork ®. Once again the public response recorded on our Website statcounter was outstanding. Many thanks to Jeff and Richard.

As you are reading this newsletter on our Website you will be aware that we are making significant improvements to it. This project will be ongoing as we endeavour to make the site more interesting for our visitors. We have included on “contact us” page and we welcome any suggestions you may have to improve the distribution and availability of our product.

At the moment we are constrained in many ways by transport and we are chiselling away at those challenges. If Bangalow Sweet Pork ® is not yet available where you live, please let us know and we will do whatever we are able to accommodate your needs or suggest the best alternative option for you.

We will be e-mailing our newsletter and news flash items to our supporters. If you send us an e-mail we will automatically include you on this list. If you do not wish to receive it, please advise us and we will remove your name and address.

From now we hope to be more regular and frequent with our newsletters and news flashes. Up until now we have been as busy as Baghdad bricklayers, but we shall be devoting more effort to this aspect in the future.

Best Wishes

Joe Byrne
