Since we wrote our last newsletter we have grown our markets into Townsville, Mackay, and Rockhampton. These outlets appear under the butcher link on this website. They and we will appreciate your ongoing support. You will find that these butchers supply high quality meats of all species, that’s why we choose them to represent our product. Those patient Melbournians who continue to visit our site in the hope of finding some local suppliers will finally have their patience rewarded early in 2010. When buying your pork please remember there are a few brands out there in consumer land with names similar to our registered brand. Some of these are: Bangalow Pork and the Original Bangalow Pork. We do not have any association with these brands. We have three trade marks registered with The Australian Trade Mark Authority and they are:

For those of you who may have thought we had disappeared please be advised that we are still very much alive and well. The last few years have brought many a challenge, with flawed government policy on imports, a very strong A$, serious droughts, Swine Flu and the Global Financial Crisis, all presenting some difficulties, however we have remained at our post and now predict better years from 2010 into the future.

I think it is important to note here that H1N1 is not a pig virus but a human virus that has transferred to pigs. I think you all know that the media usually does not let the facts get in the way of a good headline. Remember SARS and Bird Flu? There is no risk of contracting H1N1 from eating pork. Bangalow Sweet Pork® is very particular about how our pigs are raised, and our pig producers maintain strict quarantine protocols.

We have lived through droughts before, plenty of times, but unprecedented subsidised import levels of pork have resulted in a large number of Australian independent producers exiting the industry. This has created the largest shortage of pigs that I have seen in more than three decades in this industry. We are now on top of that issue (the shortage of supply) and will expand our market area in 2010.
