| Kurobuta - Exploding some myths |
* Kurobuta is pork from black pigs, mainly Berkshire (pronounced ‘Barksheer’) pigs raised Japanese style in Japan. There is no such thing as Kurobuta pork outside Japan. * Pork from Aussie Berkshire pigs is not automatically “Kurobuta” pork. To say so would be a misrepresentation. * Pigs bred and raised in Australia in recent years have been developed differently from the traditional Japanese style. They are not the same. The Berkshire in Australia has been said to trace back to the days of Oliver Cromwell – but he died in 1658, over 200 years before there even was a Berkshire breed - first recognised when the Herd Book began in1884.
